You know, the "t" in "often" is silent, so technically, "coften" is pronounced like "coffin".

Yeah, english is one of the weirdest languages to ever exist. Here is one of the more famous examples:
Fish = Ghoti.
Why? Because the "gh" in "enough" makes the F sound, The "o" in "women" makes the I sound, and the "ti" from any word ending with "tion" (like nation) makes the SH sound.
